What an amazing season with some fantastic developments on and off the pitch!

After several months of working with the Jersey Football Association this season saw Game Sense Soccer Coaching link with the newest FA Charter Standard Club on the island - GS United Football Club.

GS United was formed in January 2015 and is solely a development youth club currently set up for mini’s with the possibility to expand up to Under 15 football in the years ahead.

We have been delighted to set up our first ever games program for our mini’s this year with the first official fixture in GS United’s history being played against St.Pauls Football Club in February 2015.

Following this we were involved in a further four development fixtures against Trinity FC, St.Ouens FC, and Jersey Wanderers FC and also entered our first ever squads into the Years 2&3 and Years 4&5 minis football festival at St.Clement Football Club in April.

Adding to our coaching staff, this season saw the introduction of Coaches Jonathan Le Fondre and Brandon Brawley to our coaching team.

Our coaches in recent months have been updating their coaching qualifications and also taking refresher courses to ensure that we are always up-to-date with latest developments that will be of benefit to the players we coach.

On the pitch, our youngsters have been fantastic! Though some difficult opening development fixtures, it has been noticeable that our players are starting to find their feet and the gap between other more established clubs and ourselves is getting smaller.

Players are improving week on week in our practice sessions, growing in confidence, and having great fun whilst doing so! It really is wonderful to witness and a privilege to be part of their development.

Going forward to next season, we shall be restructuring our mini’s section to include children in Reception class through to those in School Year 5. We shall also try to arrange a development fixture every month to aid our players learning and match day experience.

Sadly though, we shall be losing five players who are moving into Year 6 next year. We would like to thank Sofia, Ben, Oscar, William and Natalie for their efforts during their time with us. Not only are they good players but more importantly, great kids.

We will miss each one of you and wish you well in your future footballing careers. Please keep in touch and our coaches are looking forward to seeing you play for your new clubs next season.

Our coaches are delighted with how the club has progressed, and there are more developments to come in the future.

I would like to thank you all our parents and spectators who have supported us throughout our journey so far, and of course all the children who have been involved in our coaching sessions.

I would also like to thank our coaches for the massive amount of work that they put in. Not only delivering age appropriate practice sessions, but for all the work that goes on behind the scenes that many people do not see or hear about.

Without all of you, quite simply, GS United would not have happened.

We hope you have all enjoyed being part of the ‘United’ experience and look forward to see you all again in September.

The futures bright, the future’s orange

A fantastic morning at GS United!

Today we were delighted to introduce our current youngsters to Joshua Le Cornu.

For the past 10 years Josh has played most of his footballing career under the guidance of our head coach Aaron Travers and more recently with coach Ken Brawley. Josh was an established member of the Jersey Capita Centre of Excellence for several years before choosing to opt out this season to concentrate on his ‘A’ level studies in preparation for continuing his education at University.

This summer Josh has dedicated his time and commitment to supporting children through care projects, with a variety of programmes including education, hygiene, healthcare and sports in poverty stricken area in St. Louis, Senegal, on the coast of West Africa.

The project is run by Projects Abroad and it involves helping the local street children known as Talibés to become more independent and improve their quality of life.

As part of our commitment to supporting others, we donated a minimum of £5.00 from each player registration for the Summer Term 2015 to aid this young man and support him in achieving his objectives through the 'Projects Abroad' program.

This morning we also donated Football Kit and footballs for Josh to take with him and provide to the children he shall be working with.

Below is the link to the Projects Abroad UK webpage where you can see further information and a descriptive outline of the project that Josh has chosen. The Projects Abroad website has some videos and some volunteers' views on the project.

When Josh returns to studies he shall be completing a presentation to his Victoria College peers and teachers about his trip. We wish him the very best on what will surely be a very rewarding and possibly a once in a lifetime experience.

Thank you to our players and parents for helping us to help Josh.
